A walk in the gardens

The Salvi gardens are a must for those who wish to visit the center of Vicenza. This small park in the city center was inaugurated in 1592 by Leonardo Valmarana; closed a little later, in the nineteenth century it became property of the Salvi family and was reopened to the public on June 1 1909.

This green space, even if tiny, gathers a wide variety of trees and different flowers. From the architectural point of view, on the other hand, two palladian style loggias stand out: the first is the Valmarana loggia, built in 1591 by a student of Palladio to be used as a meeting place for academics and intellectuals, and included in 1994 among the World Heritage by UNESCO; the second, Longhena loggia, is located on the western side of the park and was built in 1645 by the Venetian architect Baldassare Longhena.

The Salvi gardens have always been loved by both local people and tourists who want to take a short walk among the trees or relax under the shadow of branches.
